What is Alopecia Areata?

Alopecia areata is a form of hair loss which occurs when the immune system of a person mistakenly attacks hair follicles. Generally the damage to the follicle is not permanent. Alopecia areata is much more common in the younger population below 20 years of age. However, it can also sometimes affect  the adults. Both men and women are equally affected.
