Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy

This PRP Therapy when used along with the other procedures helps the patients to get excellent results. Platelet rich plasma has many growth factors.

In Platelet Rich Plasma therapy high concentration of platelets in a small volume of plasma are prepared. PRP contains bioactive proteins and growth factors which control differentiated cells, modulating cell activity and growth. In PRP therapy, concentrated PRP are usually injected in the patient.

Procedure of the Collection of PRP

Blood is withdrawn from an arm of patient by syringe. The withdrawn blood is taken in tubes and these tubes are placed in a centrifuge. The speed of centrifuge is set so that no platelet gets damaged. Centrifugation separates the white and red blood cells and platelets and concentrates them at certain levels in the tubes. Blood plasma which is rich in platelets is drawn off from the suitable level.

Plasma which is defined as platelet-rich plasma contains four to eight times of the number of platelets per milliliter which are found in normal plasma.

Procedure of Injecting Platelet Rich Plasma

The platelet rich plasma is injected into scalp areas which show hair thinning. The platelets are then stimulated to release growth factors by needling the injected area with needles of 1 mm.

Contraindications of using PRP

PRP does not pose any danger of hypersensitivity or foreign-body reactions.

However inflammation at wound sites can be experienced by a patient after Platelet rich plasma treatment. This can be due to the release of platelet-associated factors at the site of wound. It is contraindicated to use platelet rich plasma in some medical conditions.

Laser Phototherapy or Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT)

It helps to stimulate and preserve hair follicles in patients of androgenetic alopecia and some other hair loss disorders. Low-powered lasers generate laser light that are known to give light energy to all the hair roots that speed up the hair growth.

Mode of Action of Low Level Laser Therapy

The low level laser light is absorbed by mitochondria. It increases the cellular respiration and encourages activation of transcription factors via reactive oxygen species. LLLT is stimulates and preserves hair follicles in patients suffering from androgenetic alopecia and other conditions of hair loss disorders.

This treatment can be helpful to improve the density and quality of hair. It can be effective if the treatment is started before the extreme progression of hair loss.
